An introduction

I love eating and napping myself around the world – and my friends got to know this important aspect of my life. One direct effect from this, is the constant stream of requests coming in: “what was that burger I had to try in Toronto again?” or “I’m sleepy and in Marrakech, me go where?”.

To solve for this, I’ve decided to create MunchMaps: my favourite eateries and hotels in cities I enjoy.

Principles

The paradox of choice: no one benefits from having too many options. By narrowing the choices down, you actually increase satisfaction.

This principle is the base of MunchMaps and what makes it unique from the endless top 100’s online. The recommendations we show are the ones you reaaaally have to try.

03.C

Eat, sleep, REPeat

Munchmaps is currently solely focussed on eateries and hotels, but is flexible enough to grow. In the future we’d like to add sections such as ‘activities’ and ‘shops’, but we’re also working on collaborations with local experts.

On the go

Since I’ve designed this product for travellers, I had several use-cases in mind. The main one, is when someone's planning their trip and is looking to build an itinerary.

However, Munchmaps should also be easily accessible when the user is already in the concerned city, which means the website should work flawlessly on mobile devices as well.

Interactions

I always try to go the extra mile and to me, this often means coming up with interesting animations and interactions to bring a product to life. Munchmaps is no different, so before I started the development, I dove into After Effects first to make sure my ideas where feasible.
